A CUP OF TEA FOR A VINTAGE JOURNEY

Ciao a tutti!!!! Oggi il tema è A Cup of Tea for Your Art!

Hi everyone! I'm here today with a new project for the new Challenge on A Vintage journey Challenge Blog! The theme is ..... A Cup Of Tea for Your Art! Pour yourself an extra cup of tea and use it in your project. In your cup you could dye lace, ribbon, wood, paper and flowers, or use it to create splashes or cup rings on your project. And don't just limit yourself to "ordinary tea" - there's green tea, yellow tea, black tea, herbal teas and fruit teas - whatever you've got in your cup! Just remember to ensure that you create in one of our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

I interpreted the fabulous Jennie's Challenge A Cup Of Tea, with a summer theme! I had much fun creating a canvas, Tea on the bach, using Tim Holtz's die Teatime in a different way! I chose a color palette inspired by the sand and the ocean! Paper Dolls are perfect to fill my Cup of Tea, hope you like this project! You can find the tutorial on my blog!

In the first two series of photos, you can see how I prepared the base. The canvas has small holes at the top because it was part of an old album. I started with white gesso and the choice of the color palette to use. Once gesso had dried, I casually spread a little bit of Decoart Texture Sand paste and a little bit of Ranger Crackle paste,  air drying it. With the acrylic colors, I chose I made some strips to create a background with not too heavy colors that reminded the seascape.

To finish the base I used a small Hero Arts stamp from a set with marine subjects combined with some dies, I tinted the Grit-Paste with a cream acrylic and finally I highlighted the shapes of Tim Holtz's stencil with wax Blue Lagoon of Prima Marketing.

I started my decorations from the cup. I used the 3 D Lumber die with Distress Watercolor paper and I cut strips that I then colored with different layers of acrylics and Distress Crayons. Once I finished the strips, I glued them vertically on a thick cardboard and cut the cup with the Big Shot.
Starfish and shell are part of the set of Hero Arts that I named before (materials list at the bottom of the post) and for the marine branches Distress oxide, Kraft paper and a Tim Holtz's die.
The fishing net is handmade by hand because I don't own anything like it, so I searched for a tutorial on Pinterest and followed it. If you are interested click HERE.
Finally, to give dimension, I did an experiment with Finnabair's Heavy Body Gel and two embossing powders by Stampendous, Aged Ivory and Golden sand powders. I like the result!
Paper Dolls do not need explanations! To stay on the theme of the challenge, I made the smoke of my tea cup with the octopus tentacles from Sealife set by Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous!
Personally I think that it has a little horror appeal, but Halloween is approaching and I like this kind of embellishments!

Completely fabulous, Barbara! The sandy textures and sun-bleached colour palette are so lovely, and your hand-knotted net is amazing. The wooden teacup is clever too. When I saw the tentacles creeping up behind the women I wanted to shout, "it's behind you!". A fabulous project.

So many creative details on this 'canvas', Barbara with a fabulous result! Most clever--the string woven through the holes at the top. And those girls at the center, floating through the waves in their teacup add so much whimsy. Loved seeing how it all came together! Beautiful inspiration! Hugs! Sara Emily
