INKY WINGS - A VINTAGE JOURNEY BLOG

Ciao a tutti!

Hello everyone! First Friday in October and here I am with a beautiful theme for the Annie's challenge from A Vintage Journey Challenge Blog: Inky Wings! Annie asks you to use wings and ink in your projects.
Make any project you like as long as ink and wings are included in some way. This includes backgrounds, stamped images, art journals, and portions of your project coloured with ink. Any kind of ink is welcome, so let's get creative within our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

Halloween mood still does not leave me and so I used for this challenge one of the winged stamps (since it is a bat!) Of the exclusive set by Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous for Simon Says Stamp Stamptember 2019.

Classic palette: purple black orange palette, under you can find the photos with the tutorial on how I made the background! I chose four  colors of the same shade from yellow to orange to create an ombrè effect and I used them together with an old stencil with large circles. I used Distress ink pad and Blending tool.

Keep the stencil in place and spray a few drops of water to create movement in the color.
At this point remove the stencil with the circles and place the stencil with the stars (you can find it in the exclusive Stamptember pack). Reposition the stencil with the circles and highlight the design with Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink Pad. It is important to fix the stencil very well to get a precise effect.

Remove the star stencil and reposition the stencil with the circles. Now we will use Distress Resist Spray to isolate our drawing. If you spray it you risk that many drops infiltrate under the stencil so I used a blending tool to lightly dab it. Remove the stencil, clean it immediately and then dry your background with Heat tool.
Now you can color the background with Distress Oxide sprays (you can see the colors in the photos) without risking ruining your starred circles!

To color the stamp I used Distress Ink pads as watercolors.

For the embellishments: Idea-ology Mummy cloth, some bat crazy and some tiny heart, all framed by an oval cut with Tim Holtz's die stacked Oval.

That background is amazing - the ombre orange bubbles and the swirls of stars. Thank you for sharing in so much detail how you created it. Such a clever step with the blended resist spray to protect the bubbles - I've never thought of using it that way. The bat looks so mischievous with his wings furled like a cloak, and the mummy cloth gives such a brilliant touch of texture. Love the final stitching detail too... altogether fabulous!

Such a great project Barbara, love all the layers and dimension and the stitiching just looks brilliant. I am not a big fan of Halloween to be honest, and those stamps don't really do it for me, but you have really brought them to live and used them in a fabulous way!!
